How do you help clients manage frequent urination with drugs like Jardiance? Does frequent urination negatively impact renal function and outcomes?

Take medication in morning to help with nocturia.
Reassure it usually improves in time.
Encourage hydration balance, don’t over hydrate.

There can be an initial dip in GFR with the start of SGLT2. SGLT2 is actually kidney protective low term. GFR will stabilize it will decline slower than patients not on therapy. Frequent urination is expected and not harmful. Only harmful if there is dehydration. Hold SGLT2 if “sick day plan” is initiated- unable to maintain fluids.
