Program Overview
is one of six programs offered in the Diabetes Simplified Series. The Diabetes Simplified series aims to provide practical approaches to diabetes care that practitioners can immediately implement in their practices, based on the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines.
This eLearning reviews the recommendations for the management of a patient with prediabetes with a focus on initiating basal insulin therapy in a patient with type 2 diabetes.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the therapeutic strategies for patients who are not reaching glycemic targets due to non-adherence.
- Review the recommendations for the management of a patient with prediabetes.

Dr. Jane Ballantine is a primary care physician with a special interest in Diabetes. She has been in practice long enough to be well experienced in most chronic diseases. Dr. Ballantine is a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Jenna Walsh, RD

Jenna Walsh is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator currently dividing her time in primary care between 3 family health teams and Private Practice. Her focus has been counseling patients from birth to seniors demonstrated through her 10+ years’ experience working in Long Term Care, teaching nutrition courses with the Food Service Worker Program at Algonquin College, developing and running a 6-week school-based Kids Cooking Program and assisting patients of all ages manage chronic diseases, including diabetes.
